SECPRO - Extensions and Enhancements
As of this printing, Version H14 of SecPro has been
released. This release of SecPro includes some features
not mentioned on the previous pages.
STRENGTH
The keyword STRENGTH should be entered from the input
prompt. This will produce a message that will enable you
to activate or deactivate the strength report. The report
contains information pertaining to a specific PRP cross
section and it's theoretical load performance across a
predetermined span.
After entering STRENGTH from the input prompt, the
following will appear:
> STRENGTH
> Include the .STR file (Y/N)
If the [Y] key is pressed, a span must also be included:
SPAN:
The span should be entered in units compatible with those
in use within the PRP files that you wish to analyze. Most
commonly, these will be inches.
Immediately after the span is entered, the input prompt
will reappear.
SHOW DETAIL
Another input prompt command available is SHOW DETAIL.
This command will cause another form of the section
property report to be written to disk. The difference
being that some of the intermediate results will be
included within the report. The file extension is .DTL
If you will be submitting the results of SecPro to some
outside firm or agency, it is suggested that you run the
.DTL version as well for backup. This way, the chance of
not knowing where the results came from is reduced.
> SHOW DETAIL
> Include the .DTL file (Y/N)
Immediately after this prompt is answered, the input prompt
will be redisplayed.
STATUS?
This new keyword is used to check the settings of SecPro.
All of the current defaults will be listed. As additional
SecPro features are added that make use of variable
defaults, this list will continue to grow.
> STATUS?
Section width = 1.0
Ply E Code = 1
Trans Theory = User Defined
Base E = 1.1E6
STRENGTH file = FALSE
DETAIL REPORT = FALSE
LAST FILE RUN = DEMO
>
The current settings of SecPro will be listed as shown
above. Immediately after the list is complete, the input
prompt is redisplayed.
TXT Files
SecPro uses .TXT files when producing help or explanations
from within various portions of the program. The reason
for this is to keep the code more compact but more
importantly, to allow you to update these files.
The .TXT files are text (ASCII) formatted so any word
processor can be used to edit. Simply load them as you
would any letter.
To determine which file is used at which portion of the
program, simply pay attention to the top line of the screen
when the file is displayed. Then, if you find that the
information presented is unclear or incomplete, you can go
into that file and make whatever changes you feel
necessary.
A Better REVIEW
When reviewing a file from the input prompt, you will find
SecPro more flexible than previously. To send the file to
the screen, use the SPACE BAR to initiate the process.
During the output, the scroll may be paused by pressing the
SPACE BAR again. To restart the scroll, press any other
key. If you press the SPACE BAR to restart the scroll,
you will see only a single line appear. Each subsequent
press of the SPACE BAR will produce another line.
The [Esc] key is still used to cancel.
Sending to the printers
REVIEW can also write to either LPT1 or LPT2. Keys [1] and
[2] are used for this purpose. If you are using only a
single printer, then use printer port #1 (LPT1). It is
suggested that you use the Fast setting when sending to the
printer.
PLY STIFFNESS
This command includes two additional choices for selecting
the base stiffness.
Averages of 0/90 for tension or compression are available.
We are not sure when this is applicable so no
recommendations are given regarding when this is valid.
Also, note that within the section property report, the
BASE: is preceded by a value of 1-6. It looks something
like this:
1/BASE: User defined @ 1.1E6
This 1 indicates that the ply stiffness used was the first
choice in the options list. The options list is produced
by entering PLY STIFFNESS from the input prompt.
> PLY STIFFNESS
> 1=TE0 2=TE90 3=CE0 4=CE90 5=AvgTE 6=AvgCE [ ]
This is given so that when viewing the .SEC report, it will
be possible to quickly determine which ply stiffness was
used in making the transformations.
Another way of determining this is to run the .DTL report
using the SHOW DETAIL command. The .DTL report gives a
listing of what the actual ply stiffness values used.
.STF Files
When running PRP files that contain unidirectionals having
ply angles other than 0 degrees, a .STF will automatically
be written. This file shows the results of SecPro
calculations solving for off-axis stiffness values.
The .STF file must be reviewed/printed with an editor or
LINER.
Appending / Overwriting
When analyzing PRP files, the .SEC file is created. If
SecPro finds that the output name you assign already
exists, you will have the option of adding to it or writing
over it. To do either, all that is needed is a three key
response of either OVR or ADD. Which performs the
appropriate function should be obvious.
As for the remaining files written by SecPro, the above
does not apply.
If SecPro finds the file, it adds to it. So all .STN, .DTL
and .STF files will continue to grow each time that the
same name is used. If you wish to start a new file, you
will have to use a new name or go back to DOS and DELete
the old one.
